Meet Lilah
Shortly after birth, upon discovering
a tumour on one of her adrenal glands,
doctors at The Hospital for Sick Children diagnosed
Lilah with Neuroblastoma. This rare and
deadly form of cancer, which accounts for
nearly 10 percent of childhood cancers,
develops in the adrenal glands and can
easily spread throughout other organs.
At two weeks old, Lilah underwent an
operation to remove a tumour and an
affected gland.
At three
months…
a CT scan unveiled
she had cancer on her
liver. This time, Lilah went
through a more aggressive
treatment, beginning
with chemotherapy, then
surgical removal and
resection of 1/3 of her
liver followed by more
chemotherapy.
Since 2004,
Lilah visits SickKids every
few months for regular
check ups, leaving with
a clean bill of health. Her
parents have established
an event to raise money
for Neuroblastoma research:
Sunday in the Park
with Lilah. To date, they
have raised more than
$500,000.
Early
detection
is the key
By being diagnosed early,
before her first birthday,
Lilah’s prognosis was
very good. Thanks to
SickKids, she was
diagnosed and began
treatment at the right
time. Today at 5-years old,
Lilah remains cancer free! |
